Tathered Riveted Army Metal by EYE KANDI - This was a sheet metal set off of a Harley Davidson FXST motorcycle.  We wanted to make it stand out but yet be affordable.  Larry first started this set by stripping the tank down, so he could start this project from ground up. Then he put a coat of self-etching primer & a couple coats of Urethane primer on it.
 After the primer cured, the tank was sanded down & prepped for paint.  We started with brand new OEM Harley Davidson softail fenders, so they were sanded & prepped for paint as well.  Then a wet coat of sealer was applied.  After the sealer had some time to flash, Larry put on several coats of white basecoat. Once the white basecoat became dry to touch. He applied some army star masks that were designed on the computer, for a color tapeout. Next three coats of a custom mix army green basecoat were laid on.

 It was time for the art work, Larry started with his airbrush loaded with black.  Laid in the initial lines for the edges of the sheet metal. Once he was satified with the layout, he continued working more depth onto the metal edges.

  Next, he worked with a combination of black, white & several shades of the army green to creat some texture & depth on the metal panels. Creating the illusion that the metal had been weathered, stretched, warped & beat up.

 After that was completed, Larry took his airbrush & created torn metal & a few bullet holes. Next it was time to put on some rivets, using a combination of black & white basecoats.  The rivets needed a little more depth so, using an overly reduced black, he came in & created some streaked staining coming from underneath the rivets & from underneath the metal plates. The only thing left to do to the art work, was to come in & add some white highlights on the metal edges & on the rivets.

 Next, Larry put the parts in the booth & wiped down the parts, tacked them off & loaded the gun.  He applied 5 coats of Premium grade High solids clearcoat. The parts cured for a couple days, then they were sanded back down & 5 additional coats of clear were applied. After the clear had cured enough to handle, they were sand, buffed & polished to a show quality shine.
