The Mummy Guitar by EYE KANDI - We were contacted by our client about getting a guitar airbrushed to replicate a mummy themed guitar that of Kirk Hammett.  After some planning & arrangements we recieved a Brand new KH-202 guitar that would be our canvas for the artwork.
Our guitar specialist Warren Rielly dug in & carefully disassembled the guitar.  Next, Larry sanded & prepped the guitars body & neck, for some paint work.  After the neck & body were taped up, degreased & tacked off, he applied a wet coat of urethane sealer to ensure he would have no problems with the underlaying substrates.  Next several coats of black basecoat were applied.
Now the guitar was in Eben's hands for the art work.  After he had sketched out the design on the guitar, he loaded his airbrushes with white, chrome yellow & red basecoats.  He started laying out the background using these colors. Once he had the background airbrushed in, he sketched out the mummy.  Using the white basecoat in his airbrush, he started laying out the mummy in multiple values to create depth.  He then came in with some Pagan gold candy & a custom mixed green candy & started to work some color into the mummy.  He worked the green tighter in the dark areas.  Then darkened the green a continued to work it more.
Then Eben grabbed his airbrush that was loaded with the white basecoat & proceded to lay out the characters in the lower left corner.  A combination of Rootbeer, Tangerine & Pagan gold made up the colors for the skin tones.  He proceded to work some red into the hat, yellow on the shirt & Rootbeer on the jacket, darkening the colors & layering the candy to achieve the depth.  He then painted in the eyes, hair & lips.
Next, we had designed the lettering on the computer & cut some masks on the plotter.  Using the masks, Eben airbrushed in the lettering.
Then it was time for him to grab his fineline brush & brush in the black outline on the title.  Once he was finished with that, he went back & took care of any other last minute detail.
Eben painted the background on the headstock to match.  Applied some ESP lettering masks that we had made & painted in the Logo.
Now Dave was in charge of the finish work, so he put the parts in the booth & prepped them for clearcoat.  After applying 4 coats of clear, he let them cure overnight.  Dave, came in the next day & sanded them down for reclear.  He applied 4 more coats of clearcoat & let them sit overnight once again.  The next morning he came in & sanded them down, buff & polished them to a glass like shine.
From there Warren reassembled the guitar & it was ready to pack & ship. EYE KANDI
