Purple Skulls on Custom Split Motorcycle Tanks by EYE KANDI - We got these Custom split tanks in for a clients Harley Davidson motorcycle, they were a bit rough & raw steel.  Dave Duncan cleaned them up & got them prepped for some body work. After the body work was complete, Dave gave them a dose of etch primer, then a few coats of urethane primer. Once the primer had enough time to cure, Dave sanded them down to insure all the work was flawless & to give the primer some tooth.  Next, Dave put a nice medium coat of sealer, serveral coats of black basecoat. Then it was time to match up the tri-coat of purple pearl. Once Dave was happy with the color match, He sprayed a couple thin coats of Intercoat clear to protect the pearl from any abuse during the art & airbrush work.

 Next it was up to Artist James Gottman to lay down his skills. James first started by sketching his design on to the tanks using his stabilo pencil. Once he had the initial lines laid down, he continued in with his airbrush, loaded with white basecoat.  James had laid out his main lines then he wiped the motorcycle tanks down to remove any trace of the stabilo. He continued working his freehand skills on finishing up on his white layout work.

 After all the white layout work was completed, It was time for James to work some color magic onto the pieces. Working with his airbrush loaded with Voilet Candy, he worked in several layers of the candy to achieve the dimentional values he was looking for. He continued a bit more working on darker areas giving it a little more depth.

Now, it was time to give our client the red eyes that he wanted. James loaded his brush with Candy Apple Red & proceded to lay the red on the eyes.  He decided that he wanted to put some red in the nasal cavity as well as a little in the mouth of the skulls.

 Now it was time to put in some final highlights on the skulls using white basecoat. Once James was satisfied with the highlights, it was time to pass the motorcycle tanks on to Dave. As soon as they were in Daves hand, he hung them in the booth & prepped them for clear.  After all the clear work was finished & the tanks had enough time to cure, it was off for a buff & polish.
