Buffalo Runners Schecter Bass Custom Painted Guitar by Eye Kandi sm This is a Schecter Bass Guitar that Eye Kandi was commissioned to do some custom paint & airbrushing on for some clients. The clients had done quite a bit of research & knew exactly what they were looking for. They had found some original art done by Harry Schaare known as "Buffalo Runners" & a piece by Bill Jaxon known as "On the Seventh Day. They wanted to combine the two to get a unique piece that would have parts of both. There was a little more work to be done to this guitar than just the custom paint & airbrushing work. The clients wanted to replace the factory bridge with one they liked much better & thought would be more appropriate. In order to do so we had to fill the factory drilled holes & the routered spot the original bridge sat in. When the clients brought the guitar to us, they had already taken the time to remove some of the hardware & the guitar strings. We then had our guitar technician Warren remove the rest of the electronics. This was a through neck guitar so we had to work around the neck & headstock even though we were only going to paint the face of the guitar body. The reason we only painted the face of the guitar body was because the clients really liked the rest of the stained & satin finish on the guitar.
The custom fit wood filler pieces were glued in & left to dry overnight.

Once the glue had cured properly, Warren had pulled the pick-ups & the guitar had to be masked up to protect the rest of the guitar while we performed the bodywork.
Next it was time to sand down the wood to flush it up with the surface of the guitar body. This is a slow tidious process using several grades of sand paper working from coarser grades to fine grades. Making sure we don't sand too far & making sure to remove any deep sand scratching so we have no reprecussions later on.
Once we had it sanded to where it needed to be, it was time to do some priming to ensure it was nice & smooth.
Once the primer had enough time to cure, the face of the guitar & where the bodywork had been performed was sanded down & prepped the paint work. Once we had it prepped & ready the entire guitar was masked off exposing only the face of the body. We applied a sealer & several coats of black to give us a nice uniform color to work from.
The above picture shows a copy of the original piece by Harry Schaare "Buffalo Runners" that the clients had given us. This would make for the main art work on the guitar.
Above is a copy of the original art work by Bill Jaxon known as "On the Seventh Day" that the clients had given us. What they were looking for was to use Harry Schaare's "Buffalo Runners" but replace the background sky with the one shown here in Bill Jaxon's "On the Seventh Day" painting.
This is a picture of the art work being executed by Eben.
In the above picture you can see all the airbrushed art work has been completed. Sometimes the jobs required quite a bit more work, like this one where we also had to prep, paint & airbrush the pick ups. Now that the art work is finished it time for some high quality clear coating to protect the art work.

Next it gets a sanding, buffing & some polishing to get that glass like smooth shine. Then off to assembly but on this particular guitar we could only assemble so much as the clients had lined up their own luthier to align & set the new bridge.
